Emeritus Architect
"Emeritus"
architect means an architect who has been registered in Ohio for no less than
10 consecutive years, who is age 65 years or older and who has retired from active
practice. "Retired"
from active practice means not engaging or offering to engage in the practice
of architecture as defined in Chapter 4703 of the Ohio Administrative Code: "Practice
of Architecture: Providing or offering to provide those services, hereinafter
described, in connection with the design and construction, enlargement, or alteration
of a building or group of buildings and the space within and the site surrounding
such buildings, which have as their principal purpose human occupancy or habitation,
except where otherwise exempted by sections 3781.06 to 3781.18 and 3791.04 of
the Revised Code. The services referred to include pre-design, programming, planning,
providing designs, drawings, specifications and other technical submissions, the
administration of construction contracts, and the coordination of any elements
of technical submission prepared by others, including, as appropriate and without
limitation, consulting engineers and landscape architects; provided that the practice
of architecture shall not include the practice of engineering as defined in Chapter
4733. of the Revised Code, but a registered architect may perform such engineering
work as is incidental to the practice of architecture."
The
registrant must submit the request to change to emeritus status in writing to
the board on a form prescribed by the board. A
registrant or certificate holder shall not practice architecture, offer to practice,
stamp or seal drawings or advertise if the Certificate of Qualification is in
emeritus status. Payment
of the renewal fee is required to maintain Emeritus architect status. The
retired registrant may use the title "Emeritus Architect". Emeritus
architects are exempt from the continuing education requirements. Emeritus
architects who wish to return to active practice shall complete continuing education
requirements for each exempted year not to exceed two years. The board, at its
discretion, may impose additional requirements in order to return to active status. Upon
return to active status, the registrant shall pay the current renewal fee. No
other penalties or fees shall apply. The
registrant changing to emeritus status must be in good status in all jurisdictions
and not been the subject of disciplinary action resulting in the revocation, suspension,
probation, reprimand or any other limitation of the registrant's ability to practice
architecture.
